The 2026 Annual Report Results Are In…
In spring 2026, the National Emerging Museum Professionals Network (NEMPN) launched its first annual member survey to get a better sense of who our members are and what they would like to see from NEMPN. In total, 79 individuals completed the survey. While this is not necessarily a representative sample of the roughly 450 members in the NEMPN Discord server or the 1,500+ subscribers to our newsletter, there is still valuable information to be gleaned from this survey, and the NEMPN Board is excited to build on this dataset in years to come.
Thank you to everyone who responded!
A few key takeaways from the survey...
About 75% of respondents are working in the GLAMZ field
About 53% of respondents have worked in GLAMZ for less than five years, while the rest had more than five years experience, meaning they’re in a great position to provide insight to newer EMPs
Respondents work in a variety of organization types, including history museums, art museums, science museums, children’s museums, arboretums, and more.
Many respondents exercise a variety of skillsets at work, but a large majority (about 70%) indicated that they work in curation or educations/interpretation in some capacity
Reading the NEMPN newsletter, joining the Discord, and participating in a post card exchange were the most common ways respondents engaged with NEMPN in the last year
When asked what they’d like to see from NEMPN moving forward, respondents most often chose professional development workshops, community and social events, and networking opportunities
