  • Dear Representative/Senator/Congressperson [Last Name]

I am a community member and proud resident of your district, writing to urge your support for funding and policies to ensure our museums remain accessible, innovative, and impactful for all [your state] residents. I commend your commitment to our community’s well-being, and I hope this letter encourages you to champion the institutions that make our state a richer place to live, learn, and thrive.

This year marks the United State’s 250th anniversary, and there is no better moment to invest in the institutions and programs that support museums in their mission to preserve history, educate the public and serve our local communities. The American Alliance of Museums shares compelling data on the value of museums and why they deserve your support:

Museums help people of all ages learn and feel inspired.

    • 92% of Americans understand museums are non-partisan providers of educational content and 95% know that museums are educational assets for their communities.

    • Museums spend 75% of their education budget on K-12 programs and welcome approximately 55 million visits each year from students – public, private and homeschool.

Museums fuel economic development and strengthen communities, cities, and regions.

    • U.S. Museums generate $50 billion in economic benefits to the national economy and support more than 726,000 jobs.

    • Museums generate over $12 billion in tax revenue and have been credited in some areas with leading economic rejuvenation.

    • Museums play a pivotal role in developing the workforce by creating entry-level positions, apprenticeship programs, and afterschool youth programs that serve as ramps into the workforce.

Our state is full of museums that are making a mark on our residents and visitors every single day. Please support these vital institutions that are fostering community, teaching empathy, and protecting our heritage for generations to come.

I appreciate your help and ask that you please send me a response letting me know if you are able to support our local arts and culture museums through your work or in upcoming legislative sessions. Thank you for your service to our community.

    Sincerely,

    [Your Name]
